In a new interview with Southern Living, Dolly Parton reflects on her career and the levels of success that she has achieved over the years. The 78-year-old country star – who has a birthday coming up on January 19 – remains modest about her fame, and is surprised about all of the awards and accolades that she has received throughout her 70-year music career. “I think I’m a star to everybody but me,” Parton says humbly. “I always wanted to be famous, but nobody could have thought of the extent it became. I’ll see a whole wall of my pictures somewhere, and I’ll wonder ‘How did that happen?’ It’s more a joy than a surprise.” Music is still what moves Dolly the most, with the singer sharing, “I walk around with a song in my head and in my heart. There’s nothing that makes me happier than writing a song.” (People)
