DOT looks into water taxi service for Black Hawk bridge

Engineers have completed their inspection of the Mississippi River bridge connecting Iowa to Crawford County, Wisconsin and plan to share their findings by the end of the week. The Iowa Department of Transportation closed the Black Hawk bridge more than a week ago on Saturday, May 17. Sensors found movement on one of the piers had exceeded safety thresholds prompting the decision to close the bridge entirely. Engineers were called in and have since completed a full inspection. They are now analyzing the results and expect to share their findings by late Friday. Any plans to fix the bridge have yet to be finalized and there’s currently no reopening date set. Iowa DOT officials are working to set up a free water taxi service. A dock has already been installed at the Big Slough Landing Boat Ramp in De Soto, Wisconsin. More details on when the service will start and the schedule are expected to be released by early next week.
