A proposed expansion of a concentrated animal feeding operation in Farley has been paused by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, following a Dubuque County Board of Supervisors vote declining to support it. In June, Strief Farms submitted a proposal to expand its feeding operation by 100 mature and 85 immature dairy cows. At a meeting earlier this month, Supervisors Ann McDonough and Harley Pothoff voted to send it to the DNR for technical review. The Iowa DNR now requires Strief Farms to correct and resubmit its manure management plan before moving forward with the expansion. DNR officials said the plan was denied due to technical issues.
