The candidate filing period opens today [Monday, Aug. 25] for the Nov. 4 city and school board elections in Iowa. Interested candidates must file nomination papers by 5 p.m. Sept. 18. Candidates for school board and community college trustees must file with the school board or community college board secretary, while city candidates must file with their city clerk. Nomination papers must include nomination petitions and an affidavit of candidacy for each candidate. Further information is available under the “Upcoming Elections” tab of the Dubuque County Election Office website. In Dubuque and other area cities with primary provisions ahead of an Oct. 7 primary election, the candidate filing period opened Aug. 11 and will conclude Thursday, Aug. 28.
