Illinois officials launch multi-year road project near Stockton

Illinois officials announced the launch of a multimillion-dollar, multi-year road project in Jo Daviess County. The $31.6 million project includes the construction of a new alignment of U.S. 20 north of the current roadway in Stockton and its vicinity, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. A press release states that the work zone is located from Rush Street in Stockton to Logemann Road, west of the village. A truck-climbing lane and a new bridge over Rush Creek are included and portions of the existing road will be reconstructed to include left-turn lanes and paved shoulders. Construction this year will include earthwork and rock-blasting to create a new road alignment. Officials said construction will not have a direct impact on U.S. 20 traffic, but trucks and construction crews will utilize the highway. Officials expect to complete the project by November 2027.
