A Dubuque school was temporarily evacuated Wednesday after fire sprinklers were inadvertently activated during a science activity. According to an email from Holy Family Catholic Schools officials to the parents of students in the eighth-grade science class involved, the incident occurred in a Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School classroom during an interactive activity on collision. The sprinkler system triggered fire alarms throughout the Holy Family Central Campus. The campus was temporarily evacuated while the affected area was secured for cleanup, and fire department officials responded to the scene. According to the email, some students “experienced mild skin reactions caused by stagnant water from the sprinkler pipes” and were treated immediately on site.
