Candidates et for Dubuque’s November election

Dubuque’s mayor will face off against a local nonprofit executive in November as city of Dubuque voters narrowed the candidate field in Tuesday’s primary election. Meanwhile, two newcomers advanced in in a close race to represent Ward 1 on the Dubuque City Council. The four will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot, when a total of four seats on the council are up for election. In the mayoral race, Mayor Brad Cavanagh received the most votes, at 2,820, while challenger Jason Davis also advanced with 1,921 votes. Deb Borley received 386 votes and will not advance to the November election. In the race for the Ward 1 seat, Tyson Leyendecker received 848 votes and will advance alongside Carmen Hernandez, who came in just behind him with 824 votes. DeLano Cain-Watson received 85 votes and will not advance to the November election. Incumbent Susan Farber is not seeking reelection for the Ward 1 seat.
