A rural Dubuque County fire destroyed a milking parlor and killed one animal so far. According to a report from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters were called about 5am (Thurs) to a farm on Prairie Creek Road, about 10 miles west of the Dubuque Regional Airport. The fire was spotted by an employee upon arriving for work in the morning. The building had roughly 180 cows inside it. Several area fire crews were paged to the scene – including the Bernard, Cascade, Centralia, Epworth and Farley fire departments. One firefighter with the Epworth department was taken to Mercy-One Medical Center in Dubuque for treatment of heat exhaustion. Fire officials were at the scene for about four hours. A report estimates the fire caused $800,000 in damage.
