Overnight heavy rains have closed U.S. Highway 52 North between the Northwest Arterial and John Deere Road because of high water. The road closed shortly after 6am this morning. According to the National Weather Service, Dubuque had received 3.46 inches of rain for the 24 hours period ending at 6 a.m. The normal amount for the month of October is 2.66 inches. Rains have swollen the North Fork of the Maquoketa River and there is some flooding in the New Vienna area, around the ballpark. Heavy rains fell throughout the tri-state area overnight, with McGregor receiving 3.7 inches. Southeastern Clayton County roads sustained damage from the flooding rains. Reports say many low-lying roads were damaged in the Guttenberg and Garber areas. The weather service also reported flash flooding of Rabbit Creek in the Edgewood area. The Maquoketa River stood at 17.04 feet at about 9 a.m. today in Maquoketa with the the river expected to top its flood stage of 24 feet by early Thursday, with a crest of 24.5 feet later that day. Also, Galena reported 2.16 inches of rain.
