White House announces plans for a steel plant in Iowa

President Donald Trump on Monday announced a multi-billion-dollar economic development project in Iowa. Mesabi Metallics plans to make Iowa the home for its new fully integrated steel complex, the largest steel manufacturing investment in American history.  The White House said the plant will begin producing steel in 2030. When it’s fully built out, it’s expected to produce 10 million tons of steel a year, more than any other in the U.S. The steel plant will create 1,750 new permanent jobs in Iowa. In a social media post, Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks said the mega steel plant will be built somewhere in Lee County.
