Cuba City Drug Arrest

Three people from the Dubuque-area are facing multiple drug charges following a traffic stop in Cuba City on Wednesday. Police say one of the three individuals had to be taken to the hospital after he ingested 10 baggies of meth. Officers stopped a vehicle on Main Street where the driver gave police false information and then locked the vehicle’s doors. With help from a K9 officer, authorities got the suspects out. The K9 also detected narcotics in the vehicle. A search turned up a loaded gun, almost 13 grams of meth, drug paraphernalia, and a scale. While police were searching the car, the K9 alerted officers to a problem in the squad car. The person who had been driving – 31-year-old John Behnken of Dubuque – was having a medical emergency due to the 10 baggies of meth he had swallowed. Behnken was taken to Southwest Health and later transported to Madison. He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while suspended, speeding, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of meth with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony bail jumping and obstructing an officer. The passengers – 33-year-old Nicholas Kennel of Asbury and 39-year-old Dawn Warner of Dubuque – face charges of possession of meth with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
