A letter sent to the Dubuque City Council by the chair of the Human Rights Commission is calling for the removal and replacement of one of the commission’s members. The letter is part of the Monday agenda for the council. No action will be taken today, instead the item will be scheduled for a public hearing at the March 1st council meeting. In the letter from Anthony Allen, Chair of the Dubuque Human Rights Commission, he asks the council to remove Commissioner Ashley Regan from the Human Rights Commission and appoint her replacement. Allen cites Regan’s regular absence from meetings as the reason for the removal request. The letter states “during the past twelve months, Regan has been absent, without excuse, from ten regular monthly commission meetings. Most recently she has missed six consecutive meetings.” Allen writes that the request does not come lightly, but Regan’s absences are in violation of the commission’s attendance policy.
