Dubuque City Council members on Monday night approved a proposal that includes a slight reduction in the property tax rate for next fiscal year. However, the majority of the council did not support a newly proposed further reduction, though members left the door open for additional reductions as they move through the budgeting process. Council members voted, 5-2, to set a March 1 public hearing on a resolution establishing the maximum amount of property tax dollars the city can collect in fiscal year 2022, which starts on July 1. That maximum figure was tied to a maximum property tax rate of $10.05 per $1,000 of assessed value, a reduction from this year’s rate of $10.14.
