After the county dropped its mask mandate last week, the Dubuque City Council is now considering similar action. During a meeting Monday night, members of the city council voted to move ahead by having a draft ordinance written up to repeal the mandate. The ordinance will be up for a vote at a Dubuque City Council meeting on Wednesday evening. Based on state health data, roughly 60-percent of Dubuque County residents – age 16 and older – are vaccinated. The proposal comes after the federal CDC guidelines were updated last week that say face coverings are not necessary for vaccinated individuals. The city’s mask mandate can only be lifted through a vote by the city council.
