Sentencing was announced Thursday for the Dubuque man who has been convicted twice of killing his girlfriend. Reports show 29-year-old Fontae Buelow was again given 50 years in prison after he was found guilty of 2nd-degree murder last month. Buelow was granted a second trial in the death of 21-year-old Samantha Link of Peosta – who was fatally stabbed in 2017. The defense contended throughout the trials that Link had stabbed herself. Buelow was initially convicted on the murder charge in 2018, but the state Supreme Court awarded him a new trial – saying evidence about Link’s mental health should be allowed in the trial. His re-trial was held in Clinton County.
