Dubuque City Council members this week awarded a contract to fix a large sinkhole threatening nearby homes and local infrastructure. Council members voted, 7-0, to award the contract for the Tiffany Court Lead Mine Sinkhole Remediation Project to S&S Builders for $163,666. The new contract will bring the total project cost up to $188,030, about $23,000 higher than original cost estimates and $7,000 higher than revised cost estimates. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will pay for $150,000 of the project, while nearby private property owners will contribute $23,030 to the project for sidewalk replacement.
