A substantial increase in construction costs appears to be the reason a manufacturing plant has scrapped its plans for a new facility in Platteville. Officials with Cummins have informed city staff the company is cancelling its proposed warehouse, light manufacturing and distribution site. Initial plans included a deal with a developer to build a roughly 350-thousand square foot facility and lease that space to Cummins. However, lumber and construction material prices have increased nearly 40-percent since the spring of 2020. Those added costs made the project not as feasible for Cummins to go forward with the plan.
