Northeast Iowa Crash

Two people from Edgewood were seriously injured after a head on crash with a semi Monday evening in Clayton County. The Iowa State Patrol reports that 78-year-old Gerald Jones and 70-year-old Jeanette Jones were initially taken to Regional Medical Center in Manchester and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospital. Authorities say a semi – driven by 22-year-old Travis Kelchen, also of Edgewood – was going west on Highway 3 between Strawberry Point and Edgewood around 4:30 Monday. According to the state patrol, as the semi went over a small hill, Kelchen saw vehicles were stopped while waiting for another vehicle to make a left turn. He tried to avoid a collision and lost control of the semi, crossing the centerline and struck the Jones vehicle head on.
