Person Elected To Be Zwingle Mayor Not Eligible

The person elected to be the Mayor of Zwingle is not eligible for the position. Mark Harting received 12 write-in votes to become mayor, topping incumbent Russell Ryan, the only candidate who filed. However, Harting cannot be the city’s mayor, as he does not live within the city limits. A report says he literally lives feet outside of the Zwingle corporate limits. Dubuque County Auditor Kevin Dragotto says Harting has several options following the election, including changing his residency by January 3rd. If he were to move into the city limits before that time, he would be eligible to serve as its mayor.
