Dubuque City Council considers ending contract with Denver Air

The Dubuque City Council is considering ending its contract with the city airport’s sole commercial airline after more than $3.6 million in investments to maintain the service. Mayor Brad Cavanagh said the community needs time to discuss the future of Dubuque air travel. If Dubuque were to end its contract with Denver Air, the city would also lose federal funding for improvement projects, such as runway maintenance, which can cost millions of dollars. A final decision on ending the contract is expected to come at the next city council meeting on Dec. 15. The Dubuque Board of Supervisors allocated $100,000 to continue air service. The city council intends not to spend the contribution if it decides to end the agreement with Denver Air.
