A Dubuque County man has been found guilty for the second time of sexually abusing a child. A jury found 28 year old Jake Skahill of Farley guilty of 2nd-degree sexual abuse, lascivious acts with a minor and enticing a minor. Reports say a woman reported in February 2018 that her child, who was younger than 10 at the time, was sexually abused by Skahill at a Dubuque County residence. The case originally was tried twice in 2019. A mistrial was declared the first time, but a jury found Skahill guilty on all four charges during the second trial. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Skahill then appealed, arguing that video recordings of interviews with the child should not have been allowed to be shown during the trial. In 2021, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that the video recordings should not have been admitted and ordered a new trial. Skahill’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 17th.Â
